Launch of NHS Wales Travel Plan Toolkit

19 May 2008

The toolkit has been developed by Welsh Health Estates in partnership with key stakeholders including, The Welsh Assembly Government Regional Transport Consortia, Members of the Welsh Health Environmental Forum and colleagues working for the NHS in Wales.

The purpose of the NHS travel plan toolkit is simple - to make the development and implementation of site specific travel plans as easy as possible. To achieve this aim the toolkit provides:

• Information regarding the need for introducing travel plans and the related benefits;
• Step by step guidance for every stage of the travel plan development process;
• Access to a data analysis database developed by Paul Lewis, Pontypridd and Rhondda NHS Trust;
• Examples, case studies, templates and specimen documents to aid in the development process;
• Guidance on how best to manage the implementation of a travel plan including marketing/communicating the plan and dealing with queries/complaints;
• A monitoring tool to assist with the review process;
• Details of reference material and external agencies that could assist with the development and implementation of the travel plan;
• Details of funding opportunities and other mechanisms through which a travel plan coordinator can ‘pay for themselves’
