SDC welcomes the Environmental Audit Committee’s report Making Government operations more sustainable: A progress report

14 July 2008

Rebecca Willis, Vice Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, said:

"We are pleased to see the findings of our Sustainable Development in Government 2007 report being taken up by the Environmental Audit Committee. We are even more pleased to see the work that individual departments and the new Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Procurement have put into addressing these issues since we published our report earlier this year.

"Departments have a long way to go to meet their targets on energy, consumption and natural resource protection, and targets will need to get tougher in the future if we are to play a part in avoiding the worst effects of climate change. But by constantly measuring their progress against the detailed trajectories and delivery plans departments have set out for themselves in the past three months, we hope to see them achieve real change in the coming years."
