We are the UK Government’s independent adviser on sustainable development. Through advocacy, advice and
appraisal, we help put sustainable development at the heart of Government policy
The Cross-Government Sustainable Development Network
The Cross Government Sustainable Development Network was launched in January 2008.
The Network, which is co-ordinated by SDC staff, provides a regular informal opportunity for colleagues working on sustainable development across government to meet and discuss the issues affecting them and their work. It aims to encourage collaboration and the sharing of best practice between departments, non-departmental public bodies, government agencies and the wider public sector.
By providing the opportunity to meet and share learning, the Network helps members to encourage their separate organisations to commit to sustainable development.
- The Network aims to be an "organic" network that not only develops according to the needs of participants, but is actually driven by participants.
- Members are encouraged to contact one another in order to fully benefit from the wide range of experience and expertise across the network. The SDC has compiled a Directory that is distributed to all members as one tool to support this.
- It is anticipated that participants of the SD network will actively table potential topics, offer resources (such as venues, speakers, refreshments) and other initiatives to ensure the network’s continued success.
- The SDC is able to give some staff time in support to the network, acting as informal secretariat to this network.
